UDL Book Builder Project (Due March 5th)

UDL Book Builder Project Link

Since I plan on working with children of preschool age and who are in the early elementary grades, I wanted to create a book that would cater to that age group. I wanted the book to be creative, colorful, lots of pictures and discussed things that would interest, let’s say, a four year old child. Therefore, (with my little girl acting as my model for my illustrations!) I decided to write about what might trigger children's imagination and discuss different activities they do that are fun and interesting. For example, there is a page on playing dress up, where the teacher reading the story can discuss different things that the children would want to dress up as and why they would like to do so. It’s all about getting the children's creative juices going while simultaneously reading an entertaining story. Furthermore, I tried to include different sorts of activities that might engage diverse learners according to their individual interests and skills. There is a page on playing with different animals, which, of course, can lead to discussion of which animals they like and why and so on. Different teachers I've spoken to all basically say the children need to relate to, be captivated by, and/or be stimulated by what is being read. I tried my best to incorporate all that and more by writing in catchy rhymes and using cute and different pictures depicting the various activities a child might relate to, ranging from going to the park, to mealtime, to swimming and more. This book can be used by preschool teachers as an interesting tool for creative discussion and should be read out loud to the class, with breaks for discussion. Pictures should be looked at as well, with students discussing what they would enjoy and if they've ever experienced anything like what they see in the book. Teachers can really benefit from Book Builder and other programs like it, as it’s a great way to enhance a lesson and present any story or idea in a interesting manner to a class. There are different features that assist students, such as read a loud and coaching , which especially beneficial if he or she is reading the book with no teacher nearby.  I very much enjoyed using book builder and especially had a great time working to create pictures and collages for the book. It took me a while to get the idea of it but once you figure it out, it’s pretty simple. I hope it worked out and you all enjoy it!
